It's a beautiful day today. Spending the evening with my Beanster is always magical. Something about the way a kid sees things, their perspective is fresh and new. I love that about her. And she's so damned smart, just like her brother. She's smarter than her mother...hands down and when she gets to her teen years, my sister will be in deep shit.
We watched a Disney Move "Girl vs. Monster" and the girl was afraid to get on the stage and sing. Beanie asked me if that's ever happened to me, and I got to tell her about the previous weekend at Jan's Lounge, where my friend A made me get up on stage during "Brick House" to shake the Tam. I was standing next to him singing, and he leans over to the mike and tells everyone...including me that I needed to be on the other mike. I did, and it was on! I got some compliments when I got off the stage, and he sent me a text the next day and said that I totally rocked it! I've been playing around with the thought of band singing again...ah well.
The Beanster is a total bed hogger! After she falls asleep, she shifts so much. She ended up with her feet in my stomach. Crazy Girl! I had to make sure she was up and had breakfast as her mother was picking her up early for something they had to do. I managed to persuade her from the baked potato breakfast, but something tells me in the long run, she would've eaten more. We had baked potatoes last night! We have got to expand her culinary repertoire!
Raley's had a "buy one get one" sale on beef and pork ribs so I had a fridge full of ribs that she didn't get to partake of. So this afternoon I set about making a marinade of olive oil, tequila, lemon, lime, cara cara orange, habanero powder, smoked paprika, fresh garlic and onion, pepper, sea salt, mustard, etc. and put it in the vita mix blender. YUM! I then cut the ribs into manageable pieces of 6 ribs per slab and rubbed them down with a pepper/porterhouse blend and put them into the foodsaver bags, along with the marinade, sealed and froze them! I did however leave a sampling of pork and beef ribs marinading in the fridge for dinner! Yes, Dizzy is BBQing tonight! We'll do some briquette bbq...I haven't purchased the gas grill yet, but soon.
I have an obsession with bbqing and tongs and all the good things that come with grilling your food. I have no idea why. I love controlling the fire, making sure I don't overcook the beef or pork, having nice sear marks on my veggies and polenta. If I had my way, I'd be bbqing most of the year. In Foresthill, I'd bbq in the snow and rain...it just didn't bother me. I always hated it when my ex would get so caught up in other things that he'd overcook something on the grill.
My mother ended up calling from Alaska. She's trying to settle my grandmother's estate. My mother seems to find drama everywhere. It's part of the reason we don't have a good relationship. I love her, but she brings darkness. It's weird, but on FB there was a poster that said something along the lines of "No matter how old I get, I always want my mom when I don't feel good" and the sad thing is, I really don't remember a time when I had that mom. I've always been that person...I've always been the mom..to my mom and to my brother and sister...and now my son and my niece.
Anyway, she mainly talked about the drama from her friend and being accused of stealing, etc. I told her to cut that person off. She doesn't need to be around people like that. It worries me that she's so far away, but on the other hand, she needs to take care of herself...not me take care of her. So...I still keep my eye on her though.
Ok, enough of that. I'm going to clean my kitchen from the aftermath of the Beanster visit, do some laundry to prepare for the work week and maybe even take a walk in this beautiful weather...before I bbq! Supposed to be in the high 70's this week. Politically and commercially...California SUCKS! But the weather...AWESOME!
